Double Reed Festival
There were 28 middle and high school oboe and bassoon students who attended our Annual Double Reed Festival on Saturday, May 3. The students came from throughout our three county areas to attend this event. For many students, this was their only opportunity to work with a professional on their instrument. This was the first year that the festival was held at Edison Community College with our final recital at Cypress Cove Retirement Community. Many thanks to Sylvan Learning Center who once again helped to sponsor this event!
Grants / Scholarships Given
Over $1,000 was awarded to six music students for special programs that they attended this summer.
Traveling Instrument Program
Our 36 musical instruments continued to rotate throughout all of the elementary schools in the Lee County Public School System. Approximately 4,000 students were provided with the opportunity to come in contact with this program throughout the school year. With the help of a generous grant in the amount of $7,000 from the Foulds Foundation last year, we were able to replace and update many of the instruments and accessories.
Summer Music Camps
The camps took place from June 16 through July 25 at Cypress Lake Middle School. Twenty-two different camps served 278 different students in 393 camp spaces. Camps were offered in all areas of music (instrumental, vocal, keyboard).137 scholarships totaling $8,107 were awarded to help students attend the camps. Thirty sponsors assisted with the expense of these camps. Their contributions totaled $7,332. This was the biggest summer ever!
We were especially honored to have received a special grant from the Southwest Florida Community Foundation and The Fort Myers Rotary Club to bring students to our Arts Exploratory Camp.Good Wheels helped provide transportation for students that otherwise would not be able to attend.
Many thanks to all of our sponsors who made these summer programs possible.
