Traveling Instrument Program

The 36 musical instruments in our Traveling Instruments Program rotated throughout all of the elementary schools in the Lee County Public School System, giving approximately 4,000 students the opportunity to be a part of this program. With the help of a few grants that we received, we were able to replace several musical instruments and some cases, as well as update the materials that accompany these instruments.

Summer Music Camps

The 2002 Music Foundation Summer Camps took place from June 10 through July 19 and served 253 different students in 374 camp spaces. Twenty-one different camps were offered in all the various areas of music such as brass, reed, percussion, vocal, guitar, and keyboard. Ninety-five scholarships totaling $5,835 were awarded to students to help defray the cost of tuition. Twenty-three sponsors assisted with the expenses of the summer camps with contributions totaling $2,850.

Double Reed Festival

Twenty-nine middle and high school oboe and bassoon students attended our annual Double Reed Festival came from schools in our three county area to attend this event. For many of the student musicians, this was their only opportunity to work with a professional on their instrument.

Grants / Scholarships Given

Over $5,000 was awarded to six different school music programs to help assist them with purchasing instruments or accessories or to bring in special teachers to work with the students. Fourteen different students received over $2,000 in scholarships from The Music Foundation. These scholarships were for private lessons or assistance with attending special music programs.

The Landings Benefit Dinner

Approximately 100 people attended what has become one of our more popular annual public performances. The evening began with a student recital, and after dinner, it concluded with an adult recital. Approximately $2,000 was raised by this event.

Edison Community College Concert Band Spring Concert

This was the first year that we helped sponsor this concert, which was held at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall on the ECC campus. We also had the opportunity to introduce our ECC Scholarship recipients to the audience.

Edison Community College Scholarships

We were proud to be able to help support three music students through our endowed scholarship fund as they pursue their college degrees. Those students were Sara Anderson, Alex Gendron, and Rachel Jerabek.
